Mr. Dinsmore was born May 12, 1837, in Petersburg, Huntingdon County, PA, the son of Robert and Mary (Johnson) Dinsmore. His grandfather Dinsmore came from Ireland near the
end of the Revolutionary War. Marion was the second of nine children and after the death of his father in 1853, he became the support of the family
running the family farm. In 1861, he volunteered for the Army joining Company K, 78th Penn'a Vols. While in service, he contracted typhoid pneumonia,
received a medical discharge and was sent home. Being unfit for farming due to his illness, he enrolled in Iron City Commercial College in Pittsburgh and graduated in 1864. He married Sarah E. Beney, of
Armstrong County on November 15, 1870. They became the parents of six children. Marion J. and Sarah E. (Beney) Dinsmore are buried in Circle Hill Cemetery in Punxsutawney, PA.
