 Andrew Steele was born November 26, 1786, the
son of David and Margaret Steele of Union County, Pennsylvania. David and Margaret are thought to be of Scotch-Irish descent. According to a deed in the Jefferson County Courthouse at Brookville, PA,
Andrew purchased land here in in February 1837. He married Barbara Snyder, who was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 10, 1787.
The children of Andrew and Barbara were Barbara (Steele) Bechtel, James Steele, Jemima (Steele)
Loux, Mary Ann (Steele) Yeumans, Samuel Steele, William Steele, Enoch Steele, Betsy (Steele) Ross, and Charles Steele. Andrew died on January 24, 1845, and is buried in the "Old Cemetery" in
Brookville, PA beside his wife Barbara, who died in December 1884. His stone is still to be seen in the cemetery, but no stone was ever located for Barbara
. Some of their descendants still live in Jefferson County today.
