 He was the fifteenth child of Thomas and Ann (Butler) Morris of Bucks Co., PA, having been born there December 8th, 1792. The Morris family was of Welsh descent.
In 1794, the family moved to Northampton County, where he grew up, later working on farms
and doing odd jobs.
He married Mary Bowman, daughter of Joseph B. Bowman of Northampton County in 1814. In
1820 they moved to Indiana County near Covode. He bought land in Young Township, Jefferson County in 1824, and they lived there as permanent residents. Their children were:
James Madison, Elizabeth, Theodore, Charles R. B., Mary Barkley, Joseph, and Moses A.
Mary died February 2nd, 1859 and is buried in the Oliveburg cemetery. Obed died September
14, 1882, and is buried with his wife.
