Isaac P. Carmalt was born in Philadelphia in 1795. Family tradition states that his father was related to William Penn and came with him on his second voyage from
England. His mother was from North Wales. A cabinet maker by trade, in 1818, Mr. Carmalt moved to the "far-west" and established his home in Indiana County.
In 1821, he purchased a lot in Punxsutawney and moved to Jefferson County. He married Hannah Ann Gaskill in 1823. Isaac died in 1888, Hannah in 1880. They are buried in the Circle Hill
Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
