Reuben Hickox was born in New Haven County, Connecticut, the son of Reuben Hickox and Elizabeth Sickles Both his father and
his maternal grandfather served in the Revolutionary War. Reuben, Jr., married in 1818 to Catherine Williams They moved to Jefferson County about 1822. Reuben was known for his hunting exploits, said to have killed
fifty bears in three months.
Reuben died January 16, 1884, aged 90 years, 2 months, and 5 days. His wife, Catherine passed away on
January 29, 1892, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Both are buried in the Olive Cemetery, at Oliveburg. .
