Thomas Holt was born in November 19, 1793, in Cumberland County, PA. He served in the War of 1812, and later became a carpenter and pump maker in that county. While in Cumberland County, he met and married Sarah H. Pilgrim. Sarah was born October 12, 1793. Thomas and Sarah lived in Juniata County, where their eight children were born. The family moved to Jefferson County in 1838, establishing a farm south of Brookville.

 Thomas died June 30, 1871, and Sarah on June 26, 1878. Both are buried in the St. John's Cemetery in Rose Township. .
