John McLaughlin was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, coming to Jefferson County at an early
age. He married Harriet Carrier, dau of Nathan Carrier, Sr., and purchased land in Clover Township, where he made a home for his wife and children. Part of his time was spent in farming, but
he was also involved in the lumbering industry. He and Harriet had eight children: Lucinda J., Mary M., Nathan A., Isaac B., Albert, Eliza, Ida and Harriet. John McLaughlin died September 23, 1894,
aged 72 years, 9 months and 14 days. His wife, Harriet, died before him, on October 27k 1873, at the age of 44 years, 11 months and 20 days. They are buried together in the Carrier Cemetery, Clover
Township, Jefferson County.
