Jacob Zeitler was born in Gutenberg, Bavaria, Augiust 6, 1832.  His parents were John C. Zeitler and Margaretta Weiss.   Jacob came to America with them in 1847, settling for a short time in Pittsburgh, then moving to Punxsutawney in June of 1848. 

He learned the saddler trade and commenced a business in that area in Punxsutawney.

In 1857, he married Elizabeth Hughes, daughter of Samuel B. Hughes.  They were the parents of nine children. 

They are buried in Circle Hill Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
