Nathan Carrier, Sr., came from Connecticut and was one of the first settlers in Summerville. His prime
interest in coming to Jefferson County was the lumbering industry, being a leading businessman for many years. He and his wife, Lucinda, had these children: Darius, Hiram, Harriet, Lucinda, Esther,
Isaac, Mary, Emaline, and Agnes. Nathan Carrier died on March 2, 1873, at the age of 74 years and 11 days. His wife was born July 2, 1806, and died Jan 21, 1886. They are buried in the Carrier
Cemetery in Clover Township, Jefferson County.
